Huf Espana expands the solar park significantly

El Burgo de Osma, Spain, September 17th, 2024 Huf is consistently driving its climate protection measures. Latest example: at its Spanish site in El Burgo de Osma, the leading specialist for car access and authorization is significantly expanding the existing solar power plant. With almost 5,200 solar modules and an annual capacity of 4,700 MWh, the plant will save as much CO2 each year as around 9,200 trees would absorb from the atmosphere. Depending on the weather, the system will even cover the plant's entire electricity requirements. Thus, Huf is taking another important step towards achieving its ambitious climate targets: By 2030, the company aims to obtain its entire energy consumption from renewable resources.

Huf Espana, like many other Huf sites around the world, relies on the power of the sun. However, the Spanish site has now taken the lead in an internal comparison: The plant, located around 180 kilometers north-east of Madrid, has already had a modern solar power plant since March 2022, and has now almost doubled the installation. More than 5,100 solar panels generate up to 4,700 MWh of energy per year. The installed capacity is almost three megawatts peak (MWp).

"Our team is continuously working on improving our carbon footprint. With the expansion of the solar panels system, we are taking another big step: depending on the weather conditions, we cover our entire electricity requirements with ‘green’ solar energy - for up to four hours a day," says Roberto Pereira, Plant Manager at Huf Espana.

Huf Espana minimizes CO2 emissions by several hundred tons per year

The CO2 savings achieved are considerable: Huf Espana reduces emissions by over 700 tons per year. This is roughly equivalent to the amount of CO2 that almost 9,200 trees absorb from the atmosphere each year and convert into carbon and oxygen.
As with the installation of the solar power plant, which is located on a field of around 8,500 square meters in the immediate vicinity of the site, Huf Espana is also relying on Prosolia Energy as a competent partner for the current expansion. The company specializes in the development and construction of solar photovoltaic power plants.

The expansion of Huf Espana's solar power plant is one of numerous environmental protection measures that Huf has taken. The company is pursuing ambitious plans and will achieve its climate neutrality targets by 2030. This includes the neutralization of both direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions.

Huf has drawn up a comprehensive catalogue of measures to protect the environment and is implementing them consistently. The corresponding key figures are tracked worldwide and certified by independent experts. The measures range from saving energy and reusing materials to reducing water consumption and optimizing logistical processes.
